Dr. Xu (Kevin) Wang
Assistant Professor of Plant Phenomics
Dr. Xu “Kevin” Wang is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center. He acquired his PhD in Biological and Agricultural Engineering and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Computer Science. Before joining UF, he worked as a senior research associate at the Applied Wheat Genomics Lab at Kansas State University. His contributions in developing crop phenotyping and yield prediction tools have significantly propelled global wheat breeding initiatives in US, Mexico, and India. Dr. Wang’s current research at UF is dedicated to employing artificial intelligence to enhance the breeding of specialty crops. His team is developing AI-powered machine vision and digital twin technologies to provide plant scientists with precise and extensive information on plant growth. Through his research and extension program, Dr. Wang seeks to improve food quality and security amid the challenges of global climate change and the fast-growing population. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of Plant Phenomics, a Review Editor of Frontiers of Plant Sciences, and a member of the Editorial Board for WheatOmics.
