All J-1 Exchange Visitors must be sponsored and hosted by an applicable university department, and the invitation process must be initiated by the UF host department. Inviting a J-1 Exchange Visitor involves a host faculty sponsor and a department human resources administrative contact. The Human Resources Team within the host department is responsible for submitting the online DS-2019 Request to EVS.
Initial applications are highly encouraged to submit the requests 5 months prior to the intended program start date.
To begin a potential new international hire, these steps must be completed:
- RISC APPROVAL - UF invites and hosts International Scholars and International Visitors (collectively, “International Scholars”) for collaboration in research, teaching, extension, and service activities. These visits must receive approval from UF Research Integrity, Security & Compliance (UF RISC) prior to the extension of a formal invitation. Please put “CC: Belinda Missen” in the comments section of the request.
- Please, submit a review request to UF RISC through the International Scholars Review portal. Review requests must be submitted to the portal at least thirty (30) days prior to the extension of the Invitation or at least thirty (30) days prior to any UF imposed visa-processing deadline. UFIC will not be able to process DS2019 requests unless the official clearance from the RISC office is uploaded with the documents in the request. Here is a link to the current UF policy about the Scholar review, and all questions related to this review and clearance should be directed to international@research.ufl.edu.
- Once you receive the RISC approval, please submit a completed New Hire Request Form, and a copy of your hire's Passport to: ifas-gcrec-hr@ifas.ufl.edu
- Your hire will then receive an email requesting the required documents for International.
