    Dr. Felipe Barreto da Silva

Dr. Barreto Da Silva’s current research focuses on developing taxonomic and advanced molecular methods for improved diagnosis of invasive and endemic thrips associated with legume crops of economic importance in South Florida.

Research interests also include monitoring biological and chemical control of crop pests. He has a background in plant virology and molecular biology, with experience in identifying and monitoring insect vectors and emerging plant viruses at the molecular level in crops such as beans, soybeans, tomatoes, and other horticultural crops. Working with transmission mechanisms of plant virus vectors is also part of his expertise.

The results of his research will be beneficial for resolving problems in identifying and management of thrips in legumes crops.
