    Dr. Agehara's Laboratory

    Overview

Our lab studies how plants acclimate to environmental changes, including climates, abiotic stresses, and soil nutrient dynamics.

We apply this knowledge to develop and optimize agronomic practices to improve crop stress resilience, productivity, and resource use efficiency.

Our goal is to enhance agricultural sustainability and environmental conservation.

    What we do

We study a wide variety of horticultural crops, including strawberry, blueberry, tomato, pepper, potato, and green beans. We also study alternative crops, such as hops, artichoke, and blackberry, focusing on agronomic strategies to improve their adaptation to subtropical and tropical climates.

Our research focuses on plant physiological, morphological, and phenological responses, while integrating approaches and advanced techniques of molecular biology, crop modeling, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence.

    Our research topics include:

    • Stress response regulation by plant hormones
    • Root morphological analysis
    • Soil fertility and irrigation management
    • Image-based nutrient deficiency diagnosis
    • Yield modeling
    • Soil-biodegradable plastic mulch
    • Bud dormancy regulation
    • Crop diversification
