Dr. Nathan Boyd

Associate Center Director and Professor of Horticulture/Weed Science

Dr. Nathan Boyd's research and extension program focus on the development of integrated weed management plans for vegetable, strawberry, and ornamental crops.

He emphasizes the incorporation of biological knowledge with chemical, physical, and cultural management tools.

Dr. Boyd collaborates with researchers from a wide range of disciplines to develop pest-management options that are effective and economically viable. He works closely with industry and grower groups to address current and future weed management issues.

  • Research

    Research: Weed Management in Vegetables

Dr. Nathan Boyd conducts an applied research program in weed management in vegetables with an emphasis on tomatoes, peppers, and cucurbits. The focus of the research is on integrated management systems that incorporate an understanding of weed biology with management tools, such as fumigants, herbicides, cultivation, and cover crops.

    Research: Weed Management in Strawberry

Dr. Nathan Boyd conducts an applied research program in weed management in strawberries. He is particularly interested in the relationship between alternative management practices, such as double cropping and second use of plastic on weed management and population dynamics. The focus of the research is on integrated management systems that incorporate an understanding of weed biology with management tools, such as fumigants, herbicides, cultivation, and cover crops.

    Research: Weed Management in Ornamentals

Dr. Nathan Boyd conducts an applied research program in weed management in ornamentals with an emphasis on caladiums and herbaceous annuals or perennials. The focus of the program is to evaulate chemical or physical weed management tools, which have the potential to be incorporated into current production systems.

  • Extension

    Extension: Weed Management in Vegetables

Dr. Boyd’s Extension program provides county agents, industry representatives, and growers with weed management recommendations. The focus of the program is effective and economic weed management in strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, cucurbits, and other vegetables.

    Extension: Weed Management in Ornamentals

Dr. Boyd’s Extension program provides caladium growers, county agents, industry representatives, and nursery growers with weed management recommendations. The focus of the program is effective and economic weed management programs for caladiums and herbaceous ornamentals.
