Disease:  Viruses can infest this genus and symptoms have been observed.  The viruses are: Abutilon mosaic bigeminivirus, Abutilon yellows (?) closterovirus, Cotton leaf crumple bigeminivirus (Plant Viruses Online).

PanAmerican Seed 3.7 Crop grown in ground beds did not perform well.  Abutilon did not perform well in spring 2001, either.  Flowers are less visible when this crop is used in ground beds.

      5.0 Hanging baskets under saran shade grown for comparison to field plots.  Performance was good, compared to the plants grown in ground beds.  Flowers are more easily viewed from this elevated position.
