Degree Program -
The Plant
City campus offers the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural
Education. This major prepares the student to teach
agriculture in the public school system, among other career choices.
Coursework emphasizes a broad spectrum of agriculture making our
students highly marketable. Courses include agribusiness,
resource conservation, horticulture, soil science, animal science,
and many others.
The program will be taught by both UF faculty in Plant City and
through distance education mediums from the Gainesville campus.
Students will have the opportunity to receive a B.S. degree and
still be able to continue regular employment. Full-time
students are able to complete the entire program in as few as five
semesters, all on the Plant City campus.
OVERVIEW - The University of Florida is a public, land-grant research university, one of the most comprehensive in the United States and is home to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The food, agricultural, human and natural resource sciences are changing and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences is changing with them to prepare students to face the demands and challenges of the twenty-first century. Educational programs are judged by the success of graduates, and our students of yesterday are industry leaders of today. Our statewide educational program is designed so you too can join the ranks of tomorrow’s industry leaders. The major in Agricultural Education is administered by the Department of Agricultural Education & Communication and the student is trained to teach agriculture in the public junior and senior high schools. This state-certified education degree prepares the student to not only teach but to advise FFA chapters, to gain a broad base of knowledge about agriculture and agribusiness, and to manage an educational program of instruction. The demand for agriculture instructors is very high and typically 100% of Ag Ed graduates take jobs as teachers or in the private, governmental, or agricultural commodity sectors. This major is for you if you are interested in an exciting and dynamic agricultural field!
