EDUCATION: 2005 PhD Silviculture – University of Washington, WA 1995 M.F. Forest Resource Management – Duke University, NC 1992 BA Natural Resources – The University of the South, Sewanee TN Michael’s professional experience includes working with organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, as Fire Ecologist on Eglin Air Force Base, researcher for International Paper Company, and as consultant and branch manager with the firm Larson & McGowin with clients in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. His extension focus is addressing questions of how we manage our forests in the midst of rapid urbanization. He is co-coordinating the Tampa Bay Watershed Forest Working Group, with partners from USDA Forest Service, FL DOF, and other state and municipal organizations. In addition he has ongoing research in the areas of: bio-energy and sustainable forestry, exotic and invasive species, windbreaks, and creating silvicultural templates to produce biodiversity.
