New Caladium Varieties

The following varieties have been released from the UF/IFAS caladium breeding program in the last several years.  These patented cultivars are available at retail sites, from commercial brokers and directly from Florida growers.

Florida Moonlight, 2002‌‌‌

Grouping: Fancy white‌‌
Unique characteristics: White main veins with large white blotches
Uses: Potted plants and outdoor shady landscapes
Requirements: Excise main buds in container forcing; best grown in partial-sun to shady locations in the landscape‌‌
Florida Blizzard, 2001

Grouping: Fancy white
Unique characteristics: Wide strap leaves with a white center; excellent sun tolerance
Uses: Potted plants, hanging baskets, and sun or shady landscapes
Requirements: Do not require de-eyeing for container forcing; can perform well under full sun.
Florida White Ruffles, 2001

Grouping: Fancy white
Unique characteristics: White main veins with large white blotches
Uses: Potted plants and outdoor shady landscapes.
Requirements: Excise main buds in container forcing; best grown in partial-sun to shady locations in the landscape.
Florida Whitewater, 2001

Grouping: Strap white
Unique characteristics: Long and narrow white leaves with wavy margins; excellent sun tolerance; multiple buds on tubers that eliminate the need for de-eyeing
Uses: Container forcing, hanging baskets, sun or shady landscapes.

Grouping: Lance red
Unique characteristics: White main veins with large white blotches
Uses: Potted plants and outdoor shady landscapes.

Florida Irish Lace, 2000

Grouping: Strap
Unique characteristics: Long and narrow green leaves with wavy margins; excellent sun tolerance; multiple buds on tubers that eliminate the need for de-eyeing
Uses: Container forcing, hanging baskets, and landscape
Florida Calypso, 1996

Grouping: Fancy white
Unique characteristics: Broad green leaves with pink blotches and red veins; moderate sun tolerance; multiple buds on tubers that eliminate the need for de-eyeing
