University of Florida
Complete your Graduate Studies at GCREC

GCREC is located on approximately 450 acres and near Wimauma, Florida in a rural setting.  Living at the center allows for many opportunities to learn about multiple disciplines of study as well as a high level of convenience for the work you are coming to do.  Our housing offers occupancy of up to 8 people per house usually from a large diversity of cultures.  Incoming residents will need to be prepared to accommodate and respect different people, cultures, and ideas.  The number of people in the house may vary, however, a reduction in privacy and sharing common areas is necessary.
When the center was founded in 2005 the surrounding areas were still developing their roads and commerce.  Since that time many more restaurants and stores have opened.  Most of them are approximately 10 miles (10-15 minute drive).  Additionally the city of Brandon is about 15-20 miles (20-30 minute drive) while parts of Tampa are only 30-40 miles away (approximately 45 minute drive).  From our location there are numerous world class beaches within a one hour drive.  We are also about one hour from many major amusement parks in Orlando Florida including Disney and Universal Studios.  Depending on the length of your stay here it may be advisable to obtain a car or some sort of transportation as public transportation to this location is unavailable.
Residents will need to provide pillows, sheets and blankets for their beds, which can be purchased at a local store.  In addition, depending on the time of year, students are encouraged to bring both warm and cool weather clothing.  The winter months can bring freezing temperatures and summers are hot and humid with the rainy season stretching from April to September. Items provided by the center include a washer and dryer as well as cooking utensils and cookware.

Transportation is not provided by the center.  The sponsoring faculty member is responsible for transporting their students or make arrangements with a staff member or other grad student, for which compensation should be considered.  Transportation arrangements must be made prior to arrival to ensure all basic needs are met.
