What is PAINet?

It is an information network developed by the Horticultural Program of the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center of the University of Florida. The network offers free access to growers, researchers, crop advisors, and industries in Florida, Central America and the Caribbean.

AGROGESTION INTERNATIONAL CONSULTING, NICARAGUA.

Scope of the agreement:

  • Establishing cooperative efforts in vegetable crop, integrated pest control, soil and water, and horticultural crop management research, as well as enhancing the exchange of in-service training of researchers and extensionists, and graduate students.
  • Coordinators: Bielinski M. Santos (GCREC-UF) and Henner Obregon (AgroGestion).  

Current and past research projects:

  • September 2006: In-service training on "Research Methods in Agriculture", Matagalpa, Nicaragua, offered to 35 researchers and extensionists.
  • November 2006: In-service training on "Technical Writing and Presentations", Managua, Nicaragua, offered to 25 researchers and extensionists.
  • 2007-08: Field studies at Sebaco, Nicaragua to determine: a) effect of sulfur fertilization on tomato and pepper; b) influence of commercial fertilizer sources on tomato yields; and c) effect of sun scalding protectants on tomato and pepper yields. 
DOMINICAN INSTITUTE FOR AGRICULTURAL AND FORESTRY RESEARCH (IDIAF), DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.

Scope of the agreement:

  • In October 2005, Drs. Jack E. Rechcigl (GCREC Director) and Bielinski M. Santos traveled to the Dominican Republic to agree on a “Letter of Intent” with the Minister of Agriculture and the Executive Director of IDIAF, which seeks to establish cooperative efforts in vegetable crop, integrated pest control, soil and water, and horticultural crop management research, as well as enhancing the exchange of in-service training of researchers and extensionists, and graduate students.
  • Coordinators: Bielinski M. Santos (GCREC-UF) and Ramon Arbona (IDIAF).  

Current and past research projects:

  • Since November 2006: "Organic Fertilization of Banana", Principal Investigator: Henry A. Ricardo.
  • June-October 2006: IDIAF provided computer, video editing, and web designing support to build the Horticultural Program webpage, to prepare institutional videos, and to train GCREC personnel on GPS/GIS.
