In Florida, tomato, bell pepper and strawberry are the top-three planted commodities among vegetable and small fruit crops with reported gross sales values of nearly $1 billion in 2007. Highbush blueberry has become an important crop as acreage has increased rapidly over the last few years. Increased demand of lands for urbanization, water quantity and quality issues and raising production costs are among the main concerns growers currently face. Fertilization, irrigation and other cultural practices have direct and indirect impacts on those issues. Grower feedback indicated that there are information gaps on appropriate fertilization, irrigation and cultural practices used in all four of these crops.
