Soil and
Water Science Program at UF
Dr. Jack Rechcigl
has devoted the past 20 years to working on both national and
international research, extension and teaching programs in the field
of agriculture. He has frequently been invited as speaker at
numerous international conferences and workshops, sponsored by
universities, industry and government and was instrumental in
developing fruitful relationships with scientists in Europe, Asia,
South America and
Dr. Rechcigl’s
investigations in soil and water management have always been
oriented toward practical application of research findings and their
use by farmers. Increasing the farm yields and lowering production
costs were his primary objectives. His research goals have been
consumer driven as he always aspired to make agricultural practices
environmentally sound and agricultural products wholesome, healthy
and less expensive.
He successfully applied his abilities in his role as Director of the
Gulf Coast Research and Education Center to insure that research
will help growers being competitive in a global environment. Thanks
to Rechcigl’s efforts, the Center is now being internationally
recognized and is regularly visited by scientists and government
officials from all over the world; which will undoubtedly be
reflected in the increased number of foreign students at UF.
