Welcome New Faculty!...We welcome our two newest faculty members to begin the fiscal year. Dr. Geoffrey Denny, Assistant Professor for Commercial Landscape Management, comes to us from Texas A&M were he has been working as graduate teaching assistant and finishing his PhD degree in Horticulture this year. Born in El Paso, Texas, he attended Texas A&M where he received his BS in Horticulture, then received his MA from the University of Texas in Plant Biology. Geoff has found a good place to enjoy his hobbies of gardening and fishing. We welcome you, Geoff to our research team! Our other new faculty member, Assistant
Professor for Tomato Breeding, is a familiar face to those who have
worked at the Center since 1993! Dr. Jeremy Edwards first
found his interest in horticultural research in his junior year of high
school (Southeast High School) in 1993 when he started working summers
at the Bradenton Research Center, first on the farm crew and then under
the guidance of Dr. Jay Scott in the Tomato Breeding program. He
continued his pursuit in horticultural studies at the University of
Florida where he earned his BS degree. He earned his PhD in 2005
at Cornell University, majoring in Plant Genetics. He has been
working at the University of Arizona in Tucson as a research associate
before accepting the Assistant Professor in Tomato Breeding position
here at GCREC. Welcome home, Jeremy!
Welcome New Staff...Joining us in
June is new OPS, Sara Hutchinson, who is working in Dr. Shober's
program. Sara is a student at Newsome High School in Lithia.
4-H and agriculture have always been a big part of her life and has
given her a good background for the assistance she is giving to the
research program.
We also welcome back again this year, our Visiting Professor, Dr. Arie Markus, who is doing cooperative research this summer with Dr. David Schuster's entomology research program. |
