We have a winner! Katrina Kelly, daughter of Cathy
Provenzano and OPS for Jay Scott's tomato lab was recently announced as
a winner of the University of Florida's tuition lottery, HEO (Higher
Education Opportunity). This awards
Katrina 132 credit hours toward an undergraduate degree at the
University of Florida or a public community college in the state over a
six-year period.
On another note of congratulations, she was
recently chosen as a select group of students to speak with author
Stephen King and up-and-coming author of "The Monsters of Templeton",
Lauren Groff in a casual meeting on campus on March 27th. Stephen
King and Lauren Groff met to discuss her book, writing style,
publishing, and education. Afterwards, she attended a meeting of
the two that was open to the public for a fee of $25 (book included) to
attend "Lauren Groff in Conversation with Stephen King at USF
Sarasota-Manatee's Selby Auditorium. (Katrina must be living a
charmed life lately!) |

In
March we celebrated our ethnic diversity with an
International Pot Luck lunch. Many thanks
to everyone who provided such a variety of delicious foods to sample!
(Some of us "sampled" a little too much I'm afraid!) 18 flags were
posted for each homeland represented...USA, Brazil, El Salvador, Egypt,
Ghana, Chile, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Hungary, India, China, Dominican
Republic, Columbia, France, Slovakia, Philippines, Nicaragua, Canada. |
